The Role

We are seeking an individual to come on as the CTO & Head of Development who is excited to help build a mission-driven design & development company and take lead in development. A hands-on role where you will help scope, architect, code, and deploy projects as well as lead a team of software developers. In addition as the CTO, you will make executive decisions regarding our company’s technological needs and play an integral role in setting the company’s strategic direction, development, and future growth. A successful candidate should have experience as a CTO or relevant positions, developed software from idea to production, and enjoy mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities Include

  • Create overall technology standards and practices and ensure adherence
  • Develop, track and control the development of annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing and operations
  • Represent the technological agenda in staff meetings and when making hiring decisions
  • Understand the use cases (and/or user stories) in order to be the lead developer to manage the Software Development and IT teams to deliver software, infrastructure and architecture that meets the needs of our clients
  • Build and perfect marketplace integrations, write and implement API contracts, and merge back-end and front-end code
  • Mentor to the development teams while coding alongside them and reviewing their code
  • Work effectively with Product Managers and Project Managers to ensure delivery consistent with Agile processes across the team against agreed priorities;
  • Produce accurate and detailed technical documentation, i.e. wireframes and functional specs, user manuals, user journeys
  • Produce comprehensive and accurate estimates for work
  • Test work thoroughly against specifications and test plans to avoid errors and re-work
  • Keep abreast of new trends and best practices in the technology landscape
  • Take the initiative in thought leadership, innovation and creativity
  • Previous work experience as a CTO or other relevant leadership & technology role
  • Extensive knowledge of software development and its technologies.
  • Understanding of business planning
  • Personable and approachable, with an enthusiastic and motivational nature and an overall passion for excellence
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • 8+ years working in a technological capacity ideally as a VP of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or other related fields
  • Previous experience with hiring technical teams
  • Ability to delegate effectively and efficiently
  • Bonus Points if you have experience across a wide range of technologies for both web and mobile, distributed systems, etc
  • Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary $80K - $100K + 10% Equity DOE
